The Bogey Hole is situated at the foot of Shepherd's Hill, or as it was known in the 1820’s "sheep pasturage hill". Geologically speaking this rock formation consists mostly out sandstone/conglomerate typical to coastal areas where Newcastle was built upon. It has been listed on NSW State Heritage Register for its importance during different stages within our history; potentially making The Bogahole an example that might be found across Australia since they are one-of-kind - having had their construction date dating back before any other pools were built elsewhere throughout all levels there countrywide!
